September 28, 1972 – tenacious Paul Henderson scored the winning goal against the former USSR to cement an uphill Canadian win in the eight game series that changed hockey forever.
Coming down to earth proved hard for Henderson – disillusion and disorientation led to drinking and other problems only alleviated when he turned to Christ in 1975.
Today suffering from acute lymphoma, Henderson has been a stalwart for such groups as Campus Crusade and the Leadership Group and meets his disease with a cheerful "this life is just the warmup." He even thanks God for the clarity the cancer has brought to his 69 years.
