The Gospel According to the Beatles

Steve Turner's intriguing The Gospel According The Beatles (2006) – Turner is both a fan and a Christian – attempts to put the spiritual, cultural and social impact of the famed quartet in terms of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sometimes in counterpoint.

The three guitartists John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison actively sought to achieve self awareness and fulfillment through eastern mysticism and other non-traditional practices.

Their drummer Ringo Starr, however, was not so much inclined. In fact, he was the first of the group to leave the meditation camp hosted by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi back in India in the 1960's – an event which drew worldwide attention and interest.

Perhaps not surprisingly, then, it was reported recently in Britain's Daily Mail that "Ringo Starr, has announced that at the age of nearly 70, he had 'turned to God.'"

Journalist Ben Todd quoted Starr:

"I feel the older I get, the more I'm learning to handle life. Being on this quest for a long time, it's all about finding yourself. For me, God is in my life. I don't hide from that. I think the search has been on since the 1960s. I stepped off the path there for many years and found my way back onto it, thank God."

Fascinating – we all need a little help from our Friend. Even Ringo.
